Chapter Two
The Alchemist of Aethelgard

While Emma was busy stepping off cliffs into destiny, miles away in the West Wing of the Aethelgard Academy for the Peculiar, Chelsea was commanding her own audience.
The Academy's library is a vast, silent space of towering shelves and stained glass that filters the perpetual twilight of Nocturne into deep, bruised purples and shadowed blues. But at the center of it all, Chelsea was a burst of vibrant, kinetic energy.
She stood before an ancient, carved stone altar that served as her workstation, looking less like a student and more like a high priestess of style. Her long, red hair, usually boardroom straight, had been transformed into a cascading waterfall of loose, voluminous curls that seemed to catch and refract the ambient light. Her pale skin glowed against her outfit: a tailored, pinstripe jacket in deep mauve and black, accented with crimson velvet lapels and alchemical embroidery. A large, stylized '01 — THE MAGICIAN' tarot pin was affixed to her cravat, a declaration of her station.
Chelsea's signature hazel eyes, framed by her famously sculpted eyebrows, shone with focused ambition. She was the center of attention, and she knew it. A small circle of admirers, eager for her charisma, watched in hushed awe.
"Beginner's luck, Emma dear," Chelsea murmured, seemingly to the air, as if sensing the other girl's leap across the city. "True power requires command."
With a dramatic flourish of her hand, she gripped a staff of polished dark wood, topped with a massive, faceted mauve crystal. She struck the altar. Clack.
Instantly, an intricate vortex of golden and purple magical energy erupted from the crystal. It didn't just glow; it performed. The energy split and sculpted itself into perfect, floating, illuminated representations of the four suits of the Minor Arcana: a glowing cup, a shimmering sword, a perfect pentacle, and a flaming wand. They circled her head like stylized satellites.
On the altar in front of her, raw alchemical elements — quicksilver, sulfur, and powdered moonstone — began to levitate and swirl, obeying her unspoken command. She wasn't just studying magic; she was curating it.
"The universe may provide the path," Chelsea announced, her voice ringing clearly through the silent library, "but I provide the tools to walk it."
She reached out and plucked the floating, flaming wand from the air, a cool, confident smile playing on her lips.
High above, in her attic studio, Sarah Michelle Doucet watched this scene unfold on her monitor, her stylus hovering. Chelsea had just materialized on her digital canvas, fully realized in her mauve-and-red glory.
"Okay, Miss Main Character," Sarah whispered, a grin spreading across her face. "You and Emma are going to be a handful together."
The constellation of The Fool was fading from the sky, but as Chelsea gripped her wand, a new, brighter star ignited. The Magician had arrived, and the game had officially begun.
